Recorded in Paris, where the Romanian-born Enescu moved in his early teens, this collection includes the well-known pair of Romanian Rhapsodies (1901) and the composer’s three, less often performed completed symphonies.
Following his move to Paris in his early teens both Romania and France play a key role in Enescu’s music. Cristian Măcelaru notes both "the Romanian spirit found in the centuries-old melodies and rhythms to which [Enescu] refers with such consistency and depth;” while his adopted home “was where he developed into a mature, sophisticated musician.”
