The story begins in the middle of a disagreement between Stephanie Harman and a newspaper reporter. The clinic has been the subject of wild speculation among local people, and Stephanie wants to put her side of the story. As she talks, and takes the reporter on a tour of the clinic, the reader learns about it too.
