Kirk Douglas stars as the leader of a wagon train who falls hopelessly in love with a young Sioux girl, unaware of the bad blood caused by two hungry gold prospectors (Walter Matthau and Lon Chaney Jr). As the Sioux launch an attack on the local army fort, Douglas finds himself caught between the two sides.
