Conductor Herbert Kegel had a great nose for spatial sound development. For this reason, the Dresden Lukas Church had his great preference: a balanced mixing sound was possible, as well as transparency, especially in the tutti parts. To that extent he can be seen as a forerunner of historical performance practice and contemporary conducting. His intuitive, natural understanding of the long tension arcs is also very characteristic of his music making. In Berlioz's recording, the quiet tempo is striking, as a result of which the music reveals unexpected details, such as counter voices and beautiful color nuances, as through an acoustic magnifying glass. His agogics are always in the service of the development of form as a unity.
