Set in a small North Carolina town, David Gordon Green's debut feature charts one summer in the lives of a group of children. A horrific accident at a local swimming pool binds George, Vernon and Sonya together with a terrible secret. The police investigate, but the trio are determined to remain quiet. Meanwhile, George becomes a hero after saving a boy from drowning and responds by dressing as a caped crusader.
