      Publisher's Synopsis

Brian Froud has drawn inspiration from the landscapes of the English moorlands to create an unparalleled body of creative work. He is the genius behind Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. We have reproduced a scene from his 2007 book Brian Froud’s World of Faerie for our Mischievous Creatures cover design.

This cover design is taken from an illustration accompanying the poem “The Land” in Brian Froud’s 2007 book World of Faerie. The poem provides the perfect companion to Froud’s distinctive style of art, telling the story of the elements of the earth taking on a life of their own. The “sentient beings” that inhabit our journal cover invite you to step into their mischievous world.

Today a highly celebrated English fantasy illustrator, Froud was born in 1947 and attended Maidstone College of Art in the southeast of England. He lives and works in Devon with his wife Wendy, who is also a fantasy artist. For over 35 years, Froud has been regarded as the preeminent faerie artist in the world and an authority on faeries and faerie lore.

Drawing inspiration from the gnarled shrubbery of England’s windswept moorlands, Froud is best known for being the mad genius behind Jim Henson’s film The Dark Crystal, and for illustrating such bestsellers as Lady Cottington’s Pressed Fairy Book.

The long-awaited sequel to his international bestsellers Faeries and Good Faeries/Bad Faeries, Froud’s World of Faerie offers us a startling new vision of the magical realm, enhanced by the author’s own words about his experiences and insights.

By far the artist’s most personal book, World of Faerie represents this visionary artist and creator of fantasy worlds at the pinnacle of his powers. We are honored to offer this iconic piece of art that makes this journal cover come life.
