This book is intended to provide handy references on the Romanians to foreign readers, who are more pressed by time than the Romanians are, and only occasionally are interested in the Romanians. The author has tried to view the subject with the eyes of the average European interested in one of the countries of the continent. That explains the numerous references to Romania's connections with the rest of Europe. Internal developments are presented in a broader context.
