      Founded in 1911 by James Loeb, the American banker, Hellenist and philanthropist, and edited by Jeffrey Henderson, Loeb Classical Library is “Anglophone world’s most readily accessible collection of classical masterpieces”, according to the Wall Street Journal. When we say classical, we mean classical: Greek and Latin masterpieces by Aristotle, Plato, Strabo, Seneca, Ovid, Hesiod, Homer, Horace or Virgil, among others, are now available on carturesti.ro, for all the readers who are interested, regardless of their knowledge of ancient Greek or Latin. If needed, a final word from Virginia Woolf, written in the The Times Literary Supplement in 1917: “The Loeb Library, with its Greek or Latin on one side of the page and its English on the other, came as a gift of freedom […]”.
