Jókai wrote this novel in 1869, i.e. two years after the settlement. In addition to his own, indelible and ever-brightening memories - such as the Viennese revolution he saw up close or Sándor Rózsa used for the character of Gergő Boksa - he also used written and narrated experiences, which he mainly collected during the national defense collection, which expanded into a movement in 1860-61, as experience material. Of course, the specialist literature has dealt a lot with this successful novel of the writer, which is also very popular abroad. According to this, Jókai managed to reconcile the mythological majesty of the revolution and the fight for freedom, which were the main sources of experience in his life, in his portrait of family complications, which fortunately condenses the main contradictions of the social life of the time.
