The Jazz Open music festival of 1998 ended with an evening in honor of Joachim-Ernst Berendt. The title of his book Die Welt ist Klang (The world is sound) appropriately summarizes the programmatic approach of the festival and was therefore chosen as the motto of the evening. In collaboration with this 'High Priest of Jazz', at the time he was 76, now he has passed away, a program was put together that brought together a number of musicians who were able to convey on stage the universality of Berendt's musical vision.
