Wilhelm Furtwängler guest conducted the North German Radio Orchestra of Hamburg on 27 October 1951, he was at the top of his game. On the evidence of this recording, the Hamburg orchestra players, for their part, were more than eager to play under Furtwängler's inspired baton.
