It’s a cop show, granted, but it’s a good one. Criminal Minds is based around a profiling team from the Behavioral Analysis Unit on the FBI. This means that the show is usually far more interested in the criminal, rather than the crime they’ve committed, and that in turn makes for some less predictable than you might expect episodes.
What’s particularly impressive, though, is the ideas that continue to be injected into Criminal Minds. Given just how saturated the genre it lives in is, it’d be easy to go through the same old motions as everyone else. But the show doesn’t. Instead, five seasons in, it’s still utterly absorbing drama, without the extreme dollops of gloss that others depend on.
