Based on Leo Tolstoy's False Note, though relocated to modern-day Helsinki, Frozen Land follows a 500 Euro note as it passes through some fascinating pairs of hands. When a schoolteacher is fired from his job, his son bears the brunt of his ire. Unhappy, the son buys a CD player with a counterfeit 500 Euro note. This note thence starts on a journey through the hands of a series of people, each more in crisis than the last, apparently. Frozen Land is an intense, fast-paced and realistic depiction of today's widely misunderstood and cruelly caricatured Finland. It contains several dramatic and tragic events and plenty of action, but also warmth.
