Mario Giacomelli

Mario Giacomelli (19252000) photographed farmlands around Senigallia, creating surreal hillsides with radical perspectives and exposure techniques. Concentrating on the marks of the land, he made aerial photographs to intensify the verticality of the space, and also etched trees, mounds or holes into his negatives. His work was compared with that of Frederick Sommer, Henry Holmes Smith, Christo and Robert Smithson, and the distinguished photography curator John Szarkowski commended his work and propelled his career to even greater heights.
