Need for Speed Rivals is a racing video game set in an open world environment. Developed by Swedish and British developers Ghost Games and Ghost Games UK and developer Criterion Games, this is the twentieth installment in the long-running Need for Speed series. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 19 November 2013. It has also been released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as launch titles in the same month.
A spiritual successor to Criterion's beloved Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Players star as either cop or racer, and there's an AllDrive feature which smells like a next gen update to Hot Pursuit's Autolog system, allowing you to "seamlessly transition" in and out of multiplayer as you participate in races.
Racers are out to become infamous by way of risky driving and the studied evasion of pursuing fuzz. The more cops you evade, the more Speedpoints you get, which allow you to unlock new cars and items. Get busted and you lose everything, however. As a cop, meanwhile, you're out to smash any passing speed freaks to dust, swiping better cars and more powerful "pursuit tech" as you climb the Police Force ranks.
There are 11 car gadgets - turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs for racers, and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops. It's Hot Pursuit, isn't it. Hot Pursuit with added razzle-dazzle.
