Desigur, este imposibil de redat esenţa unei culturi prin numai câţiva dintre poeţii săi, fie ei şi cei mai mari. De asemenea, nu se poate aprecia cu adevărat un poet după un număr redus din poeziile sale. Cu toate acestea, sper ca prezenta culegere să ofere cititorilor o bună introducere în literatura română şi totodată să-i îndemne la un studiu mai aprofundat al comorilor ei, încă insuficient cunoscute peste hotare.

Of course, it is impossible to represent the essence of a culture with the works of only a few of its poets, even when they are among its greatest. Also, one cannot truly appreciate a poet from only a small number of his poems. Nevertheless, I hope this collection will offer the readers a good introduction to Romanian literature, and will encourage them to a deeper study of its treasures, which are still little known abroad.
