Nick (Woody Allen) and wife Deborah (Bette Midler) are a couple 'celebrating' their sixteenth wedding anniversary. Whilst shopping in a California mall Nick lets slip that he had an affair at a point in the past. Deborah flips out and the very future of their relationship seems in jeopardy. This play-like movie continues focusing almost entirely on the dialogue between the two as further revelations colour their sense and understanding of their relationship.
