After singing with Capitol Sinatra recorded a string of hit albums between 1955 and 1961 collaborating with Conductor and Arranger Nelson Riddle. The bulk of songs on this 3LP set are drawn from this era, which is generally conceded to be Sinatra's very best work. It is also worth noting that - as was the working method of the day - all of this material was recorded with Sinatra singing live in the studio in front of an orchestra. Much of this was a tour through The Great American Songbook, with specific reference to the works of Cole Porter - I've Got You Under My Skin, I Get A Kick Out Of You, From This Moment On and Night And Day. There were moments in all of this where Sinatra's genuine loneliness and pain shine through, and songs like Witchcraft emphasised the idea that all of us are powerless when it comes to love. His legacy has left us with music which is the perfect solace for broken hearts in those wee small hours of the morning.
