The Early Mubarak Years 1982–1988

Mubarak is not subjected to direct criticism, which is mainly reserved for Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar Sadat. Meanwhile, political figures such as Saad Zaghloul and Mustafa al-Nahhas are praised as great leaders, signifying Mahfouz's continuous
sympathy with the Wafd party. Mahfouz's exceptional humanity is most prominent in the careful attention he pays to the
